Default Rock Island vs Mossberg

So I am going to get another truck gun/woods gun.

I am looking at the Rock Island Amory M5 Packerized and the Mossberg 88 Maverick.

I have a Mossberg 500 in 20ga pistol grip next to my bed. Love it. Finish is good, slide is smooth... its a good gun.

This time I am going with a 12ga. I want to buy the Maverick because its 8+1 and looks great. Same nice glossy finish I like on it too.

However from what I read the RIA is a copy of a High Standard police shotgun is is "from what I read" one of the best pump shotgun setups ever designed. I need to buy online so I cant do a test feel. I am leaning towards this gun even though. I dont think I will like the finish on it very much but it might be nice since its going to be a truck gun. Another down side is that it doesnt hold as many shells and no way to do a tube extension.

Thoughts between the two?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Here is why I am leaning towards the RIA

The guy called me yesterday and told me i could come pick it up. So i went in after lunch today and paid 246.19 out the door. It has a heatsheild and the buttstock allows for 2 additional shells. Lifetime warranty card is filled out. Its heavier than my mossberg maverick 88, has a metal trigger assembly and no plastic pins in the forend like the maverick 88. A very solid feel to it, I have never seen a shotgun that has an action as smooth as this as well as the jewelled bolt. If you hit the release lever for the forend the action will slide completely open allowing a shell to come into the feed arm. When i hit the release on the mossberg it barely moves and unlocks. I love my mossberg and will never get rid of it, but this is by far the nicest budget 18.5" barrel shotgun i have seen. I am going to go shoot it this afternoon.

It's a high standard knock off from what I understand.

This is true. It is an almost exact copy of the old High Standard Flite King. These were superbly designed shotguns. Kind of like an 870 on steroids. They have twin action rails, heavy-duty extractors, and are all steel.

I have one that was imported by the now defunct Mitchell Arms. I have about 250 rounds through it without a hitch (high brass buckshot). Mine is the police model with a cylinder choke. At 30 yards, it throws about a 12-15 inch pattern, depending on ammo.

I would go for something like a benelli nova like I have been wanting forever but I am just selling a .22 to buy a cheap 12 ga. Ill get a nice one later. Im not working enough now to put away cash for a gun so I need to recycle a gun.

Im buying in the morning. Had a nicket plated one come up on the auction site.

Cant decide between packerized or nickel now.

Thoughts anyone?

Im leaning towards nickel . Might be a nice break from the evil black.

Hey, just as long as it's from The Phillipines and has a 4+1 (is it?) capacity w/a 20" barrel!

Mine says it was made in P.I. seems like a decent shotgun so far. Just wish I could swap bbl's like mossberg's and remington's do. I may buy a 7 round mag tube and spring when numrich gets them back in stock.
