- - Remington 878????

I picked up a Remington 878 at a local pawn shop for cheap ($185) and have refinished it. My question is what's wrong with these guns? I know not many were made but when I disassembled it it is basically an 870 with a gas system. I can tell its not the cleanest type of gas system to use on a shotgun but is it completely unreliable? I have no doubt the trigger group and latch system are good and will cause no problems as they are basically the same as the 870. The gun shoots fine so I am just wondering what the deal is with this model. Any info would be helpful.

The 58 and 878 were superseded by the Remington 1100. A lot of people were fond of them, especially the 58s, but they were never close to being as reliable as the 1100. They were known to have a weak link where the action bars are attached to the piston inside the magazine tube. They do handle different. If the link fails it can be repaired.
