Default Remington 870 vs Mossberg 500

Gun show coming up in less than a week. I am still torn in which shotgun to purchase. I've heard great arguments from my friends but I still have no idea on which road to take. Looking for simple home protection and fun at the range. What say you?

Create a poll and let the forums decide . As you can see from my avatar, you know what camp I am in. Their are a number of reasons why I personally chose the M500 over the M870

Looser/Smoother slide

Doesn't have that "flapper" shell elevator. Tired of getting my fingers pinched.
Feels better in MY hands.
Built to last
The 870 seems to have dropped in quality from what I have seen in the last couple of years.

Yeah, I also like the feel of the 500 over the 870. Which is easier or offers more upgrades? Also easy on the pockets?

I'll go the other way. I like the 870 over the 500. My 870 has never had a problem. Never even a hiccup. My buddy has a 500, always jamming.

To be fair though, I'm anal about keeping mine clean, and my buddy never cleans his. But, look at the reputation the 870 has EARNED...

The mossberg is typically easier on the wallet although it depends on the model. As far as accessories go, I'd say they are both about the same.

I own both. Both work well. But the 870 just feels better in my hands to me. And cleaning the Moss is a real PIA in comparison the the 870

They are both great shotguns. Usually it comes down to which one feels better in your hands. Buy that one.

Or...

Spring for the mossberg 590a1, and poop on the 500 and the 870.

I prefer the 500 for one reason - slide release location.

If there is any subject that has been beat to death, this is it. There are enough examples of both out there that their viability is unquestionable. Pick one and get on with life.
