I'd go with the 870.
I'm 35 and still have the same 870 my dad baught me for graduation and never had one single problem, locked pump, mis-fire, nothing. And there's a lot of extras available for th 870's. A lot for the mossberg, but moreso for the 870

Well thinking back on a previous thread I still haven't fully ruled out rifles. I am in love with the Marlin 336 it's just absolutely beautiful, and I've gotten to hold one so I love how it feels.

I am just at the narrowing down stage right now.

I haven't gotten around to holding any of the shotguns I have mentioned. Nor have I gotten to shoot a shotgun... or a 30-30 the only high power rifle I ever shot was .270.

I really wish there was somewhere I could try out all the calibers I am interested in. I'd say the Marlin 336 is top of the list, second would be Remington 870.

Default skeet

the 870 and the 500 are both good guns but if you want to shoot skeet an autoloader or ou or ss is a much better choice

Okay, so after several long internal debates, going from shotgun to rifle. I have come back to a shotgun, dropped the thought of skeet shooting and thinking about just purchasing a shotgun for turkey hunting. I see that Academy has a Benelli Nova on sale for $375 and a Mossberg 500 turkey thug for $299.

I have seen nothing but good reviews for the Benelli, which I am leaning toward. But I was wondering what was up with the Mossberg being called a "Turkey Thug?"

I do have another question, purchasing either shotgun... or even going back and purchasing a Remington 870 express which ever I do so choose, am I going to be able to open the box, wait until turkey season and go out and hunt?!?!? or is there anything else (rifle wise I am talking) I am going to need to get out and go hunting?

So I am going to academy tomorrow to pick up my 870 or 500, I have been talked out of the Benelli nova, since I can save some money on either of the two original choices.

I am looking for the 870 express and well I'm guessing just the Mossberg 500A, either fits my needs, it just depends on which they have. Is there anything wrong with the 870 shurshot? or is that an express model?
here is a picture of the shurshot, http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=content&target=products/outdoors/hunting/firearms/shotguns&start=16&selectedSKU=0350-02662-2144

here is a picture of the shurshot, REMINGTON 870 SHURSHOT 12-GA. 28-IN. PUMP SHOTGUN
That only goes up to a 3" shell. The Express will take up to a 3 1/2" shell.
That's the only difference I am aware of.
