Remington 870 Express Tactical

I'm looking at buying the 870 Tactical that comes with Ghost Ring sights, mounted rail, and defense choke tube extension from the factory. I know 870's are reliable so just seeing if anyone has hands on range time with this scatter gun. Thanks

870 are pretty much the same what that gun differs from mine is the magazine extension tube a different barrel and choke. They also make it with the blackhawk stock now too. I love shooting my 870 and it is easy to clean and reliable. Cant go wrong.

Yeah I've got a standard 870 Express but want the tactical version for another home defense option.

Pretty much be the same as that. I'm not sure how that choke patterns though.

I just like the fact that it's an interchangeable choke so I can switch if ever want.

They are NOT that reliable anymore I'm afraid. Read the threads of all the failures to function. Even the President of Remington doesn't claim they are reliable anymore -- he says they have "pointability." That what you want in your defense gun? Sorry.

quite a few people in my family have 870s my 20 ga was bought new, 6 years ago. I took threw mud I dropped it in a lake once climbing into a duck blind, it's been threw snow and rain never clicked when I wanted it to go bang except when I went threw all the shells in the gun. The only issue I had with the 20 was when the laminated wood swelled on a deer hunt. I traded that 20 to my grandpa for his 12ga magnum. Not sure how old it is but never failed to fire a round either. My uncles magnum has shot thousands of rounds too, no issues there. Now I'm not saying that the ceo of remington our you a liar I just haven't seen an 870 fail to fire. I'm sure just like the 700 rifle issue remington had, I'm sure it all depends on condition of the gun. The one issue I had with my 12 was the modified choke got a little rust around the threads. Which im going to remove the choke from now on to clean my gun.

Now with that being said is the reliability issue something new? What is causing reliability issues? Because like I said I have yet to see an 870 fail to fire.

I got one back in 2008 and haven't had any problems with mine. I shoot all kinds of ammo through mine too. All I've done to it is put a sling on it and some XS Big Dot night sights that I really like.

I may take off my stock and put my synthetic stock back on. I just need to find the allen wrench that came with it.

Buckethead, I'm not saying the President of Remington is inexperienced or that you are necessarily illiterate but I didn't write "fail to fire," and where we primarily shoot shotgun it is so common for them to fail soon or right out of the box that every other knowledgable shooter can't help but start chuckling after the first "870?" is answered "yeah, how did you know?"
