This sounds a lot like the issue with the barrel extension being rough as outlined here:
http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=255157&sid=116973b1f9895985cc af1b7ff4d3ad88&start=0

I have 2 870's, and I run thousands of rounds through them each year in 3 Gun (I run one, my 2 boys run the other one). The only trouble I have had is when I did not clean the extractor and channel for a time, it got grit in it, and it started sticking and would not extract.

Come watch a 3 Gun match and you can see every brand shotgun choke at least once..

YEA.....What he said...But at least you dont have a Win 1300, I have seen many of them over the years jam/misfire and come apart at the trap shoots,

I have a hard time believing that about the 1300s You are the first person I have ever heard say anything bad about them I have owned many and shot thousands of rounds through those guns and never had the first issue....in my opinion they are the best pump gun ever made...

Sight bridges come loose and slide out, re-tighten barrel every 5 rounds or it will come off, fail to eject, etc. Just things i have observed over the years. Maybe you got a good one.

I can think of at least 5 people who started out with a 1300, and had problems with them, But if a shooter becomes a regular at the trap shoots, they usually switch to an over/under early on. So no big deal. The Mossberg Silver Reserve is a very nice trap gun for about $400.00 used. As shooters move up in quality they sell them to the newbies with pump guns.

But to be fair, i think one of them was blown apart by one of the old timers using a hot re-load, After the shoot some of the guys stick around, drop back to 40yrds and shoot for $$$$. They call it "run what ya brung" or something like that. I usually cant stay that late, but can hear them soupped up loads going off halfway home....LOL
