Default Remington 870 Disappointment

Simple solution to your concern about the 870 Express. Go to a gun shop and buy a used 870 Wingmaster. I have two old 870's. the first one I bought used back in the early 70's. It was a beautiful used 870 from the 50's. These pumps are the smoothest, most reliable shotgun ever made. with the double slides, it is flawless. I've looked at some of the cheap "Express" models available at Walmart, etc.. Save yourslef the grief and find a good used old 870. They are availalbe everywhere. the old guns are works of art and will never let you down. the old wood is beautiful and the action will be smooth. Don't buy the new junk.

I love my 870 express super mag! I don't like using cheap shells in it. Jams. I heard polishing the chamber helps so I might look into it. I bought it used but its only about 5 years old.

Have had a few 870's over the years.
No problems, even with my reloads, Federal paper.
But they are a bunch of years old.
Sad to hear these stories.

Same here. I have an 870 along with two Mossbergs and a Win. 1300, but they are all at least 10 yrs. old.

I guess firearms fall into the same category as just about every other product:

"They don't make em like they used to".

My 870 is a 1992 model. Have never given me a problem in 21 years. Fine shooter.

Ok,
have to tell the truth about my 870's
when I shot Trap or Skeet,
They did not always hit the bird.
Couldn't have been me.

I have a few shotguns with that same problem.

The Express is made to a price point. For some reason that bothers some people. As far as their quality, they can still turn out an excellent gun, they just aren't giving them away. The current Sporting guns are all excellent, but they are not cheap.
Nobody who builds guns is in it for the fun of it. If you don't make money pretty soon you will not be making anything. Beretta is still doing quite well, and it started in this country with the politically motivated decision to buy Beretta 9mm pistols for the military. In the end it has turned out well for us gun lovers, but the beginning still irks me.

Sad to hear that your rem 870 was a disappiontment. I have to counter some of the critisism of the "newer" 870s, with saying that my experience with a 2YO 870 is very good. I got two pumps, Benelli Supernova and 870 Express magnum, and my favorite gun is definantly the 870. Think the action is smoother and just like the feel of it better, even tho the nova is almost twice the price.

Sorry for bad English. Im Norwegian.

It would appear that the newer Expresses they are turning out have quite a bit more fit and polish than those before. I have looked at a few lately and was pleasantly surprised.
