Like it or not, if a company isn't in business to make money, they will not be in business long, period. In the age of WalMart price is EVERYTHING to the vast majority of people, I think Remington cranks out Expresses and doesn't worry too much about QC, and takes care of the problems that come back. I wonder how many get stuck behind a door and never shot. If an experienced person gets an Express as a bad weather knock around gun, they usually have very few issues and if they do they fix them. The Sportings and VersaMaxes are pretty nicely made for the people who really shoot things. Again, this is just my opinion. Out of the box a Mossberg is usually smoother than an Express, no argument. My personal interest in pump guns includes only BPSs or Wingmasters; not saying there aren't others that work fine too.

I always steer people away from the new 870s. I've had too many of them end up on my bench in the last year due to everything from rusting problems to jamming and failure to eject issues. Go Mossberg or get friendly with a gunsmith.

I tell everyone to stay away from the conglomerate known as Freedom Group.

Another big one they got is H&R. I didn't recognize any of the other brands on their site, except for the ones you mentioned.

It's really a shame that all of these companies were acquired by them.

My son bought an 870 and shot at least 100 clays a week with it for about 6 months and never had an issue. I have heard others with the same problem as the op. Looks to be the luck of the draw.

The bigger shame is that when Freedom Group acquired Bushmaster, they laid off all/most of former Bushmaster employees and closed that factory.

Those good people got the financing to reopen the factory and (as far as I know) keep all the employees. They are now known as Wyndham Weaponry.
