Default Rem 870 ?

I have a guy telling me That I can take my Rem 870 20 ga. and swap out the barrel with a 12 ga. and it will function fine. I am not to up to date on my shotgun info so I just wanted to see if someone can tell me if this is true or not.

I believe so, the owners manual should say something about barrel interchangability. I read all model 870 12 ga. barrels are interchangable, except the super magnum.

NO you cannot swap out a 20 ga barrel with a 12 ga barrel!!!!!!!!! You CAN however swap out with other barrels of the same gauge.

Do not attempt this!!
20 ga. & 12 ga. are different diameters.

I really dont understand how this will work, or why anyone would want to do it for that matter.

Where (on what pg.) does it say that and what exactly does it say? Remington has all their Owner's Manuals on-line and I'd like to see this.
