I am fair shot at 15-25 yards but when I do shoot at that range I have to take time with the bead site, I was actually considering a ghost ring site but I don't think that is available for the 500. So I just wanted to hear input on which people prefer and if they have had improvement in there target practice. If really appreciate it.
there is a ghost ring site, but says gunsmithing required, http://www.mossberg.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=95300

I have a red laser on mine. Its just for home defense in any low light spots.

Well Orlando, you gave me a chuckle. A Lazer on a Shotgun. Kinda seems to be insulting the capability of the Shotty doesn't it? Are Slugs involved, and that's reason for Lazer?

I know what my 20ga with Full Turkey Choke Patterns at 40yds to Plywood using #6-1/2 shot, I can imagine the power/damage it puts out at less than 30Ft. I wouldn't want to be at business end.

I will say I do like your Setup.

Slugs, shot at hip level, remaining in low light would justify a laser. If I'm at work and my wife is at home I tell her not to turn on the flashlight, just the laser. Turn on the bedroom light, stay put, and get on your cell. She knows better than to clear a house.

Shotgun owners with lasers on shotguns understand they are NOT for presicion shots. On shotguns, lasers are for hip firing or target acquisition in the absence of night sights.
