Recomendations for youth 20 gauge pump

I recently rekindled my love for shooting trap. I have an 870 express magnum 12 gauge which was my first firearm. Too much kick for the wifey to shoot, nearly put her on her behind the only time she ever attempted to shoot it. :D

Im looking for a cheap youth 20 gauge for her. Of course the first thing that came to mind was another 870, as mine has served me well. Last time I was at walmart I noticed the youth 870 was ~300, and the mossberg was under ~250.

Is the 870 worth the extra $$$? Any other cheap options out there?

I bought a Mossberg youth model 500 in 20ga for my wife to shoot. It's relatively cheap and built well enough to last. She doesn't seem to mind the recoil. I have an 870 and a couple other 12's, but I like the Mossy, just my opinion.

I really don't think you could go wrong with either shotgun.
Both are great guns!!
I would let your wife handle both guns & see which feels the best in her hands.

I also have a Remington 12ga. 870 Express that I use for hunting & clays.
The 870's are legendary, I'm a Remington man, but that's just me. :)

Good call, I should just have her check both out and see what she wants to go with.

I love my 870, although after a couple boxes of shells my shoulder was a little sore the next day. :o Been a while since I had taken her out.

Megaton,

Do yourself a favor and get the "SuperCell Recoil Pad"
for your shotgun. The pads are $19.00 through Remington's website
and available for wood stock or synthetic stock. The best 19 bucks I've
spent on my shotguns. You might want to get one for your wife's gun also, if she goes Remington.

I have a 20 ga that I got when I was 15 and I had the stock cut down and a recoil pad added. I love that gun. And my husband likes to shoot it since its so easy to get to his shoulder.

My friends wife has the 20 ga. Mossberg 500 youth. Very nice. I just bought a 20 ga. Rem. 870 for myself and my family. Very nice. You can't go wrong with either model, I really like them both. Good luck.

Both are rugged & reliable. The 870 seems a tad more refined but the Mossberg features a tang safety. See which 1 feels better in HER hands. Have her handle both kinds, working the pump & safety to get a feel which SHE prefers.

Couldn't say it any better...
