Any suggestions for shorter barrels? I was looking to pick up the 18.5" Mossberg offers on thier website (obviously through a retailer) for approx $74. Any other alternatives/ideas, please fire away...I'm a newb in this world.
Check your LGS for used model 500 barrels, either short or long. Price having the smith cut it down to 18.5 to 20 inches and a drill and tap for the bead. Use the leftover barrel piece for a shifter in your car. (T handle of course.
All of the accessories for a M 500 will fit with the exception of the fore end, but that cam be overcome by picking up the fore end tube for a 500 (88 is rivitted, 500 screwed in place via a spanner cap), the safety, and the trigger group. All the other "HSLD" stuff is a direct install.
good choice. Had one for 17 years before I gave it to a friend for his son, and I only ever had one issue with it durring that time. mine had the single action bar, so the fore end would sometimes twist when cycled and rub on the receiver. After a while, it started to hang up, so a field strip, stoning, and a reblue fixed this easily. Enjoy.
