DefaultPainted Shotguns

A buddy of mine is a serious Sporting Clays shooter. He competes probably 3 out of 4 weekends a month. He also paints shotgun stocks on the side. I had never heard of anyone doing this until I met him. My question is this: Is this a Sporting Clays thing or a competitive shooter thing? Here are few pictures of his work.

I've seen a few on the skeet and trap ranges, so I guess it's a competitive shooting thing...
