That seems like a lot for the Mossy, but i have the pump-action. I like the Mossy 500 very much. It isn't as expensive, has TONS of accessories available, and has been very reliable for me.
Honestly, if i was planning on spending that much on a semi-auto home defense shotty, i'd be considering the Saiga 12 for ease of reloading (uses box magazines). http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/saiga-12-gauge-with-19-barrel-iz109-p-226.html

I bought a Mossberg 500A package at Big 5 sporting goods. I paid around $239. or something like that. It came with an 18.5" and a 28" barrel. I sold the 28" barrel, installed Mossberg factory ghostring sights and put an elastic buttstock shotshell holder on it.
Capacity is 5 + 1 plus six on the stock. If that isn't enough, you need to call in an airstrike.
Save some money and spend the rest on ammunition of various types.
BTW, it's the same shotgun, just with a different stock and magazine tube.

that sounds like an awesome deal. about the same for my 870, i got it for 309. if that came in a package with a slug barrell, that would be pretty awesome.

I thought his link was a semi-auto, not pump? I prefer pumps myself.

I also had their 590 (my fav.) military pump model 20" cyl bore and 9 rounds of 12GA for $300.00 ish Nib
They were both just as reliable as you could want and If you don't have screwed up shoulders like me you'll be very happy with a good 12 GA Mossberg 590 A1 pump, then put your own tritium Gohst ring sights on there and remember you can also get those A4 style adj. stocks for other shotty's as well so get what you want to get, as long as you check out the aftermarket 1st before spendin $

Not trying to bag on what people are saying, but aren't most of the shotguns at Big5 factory seconds? As in, they didn't completely pass quality standards. Buddy of mine got a 500 and it jammed up all the time. Just my experience (why I got a 870). But at the gun shop a few days ago, a guy showed up with a 870 that was brand new and had jammed on him, the four guys at the counter reamed him for using cheap ammo and told him to quit being a cheap azz and buy decent shells.
