In my quest for a 1911, I found a Mossberg 500!
I have been laying low and looking for my first 1911, however, in the mean time I have also been looking for a Mossberg 500 for home defense. Well today it happened, I fell in love with a Mossberg 500 Tactical 12G, 18.5" barrel with the 6 position adj. carbon fiber stock and pistol grip. This 500 is light and very easy to handle. I plan on shooting it soon, maybe early next week so I'll follow up with some comments and a few pictures.
Really love this thing!

Check out a side-saddle shell holder. It may be heavier than you like, may not. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/7-1081159 Mine is a cheapy similar to that.
My Mossy500 has been mine since 1995; she was somebody else's before that, looks like she's eaten a ton of shells; she still runs fine. My shorty 18.5" barrel doesn't match the "patina" too well.

Not a 1911 but great shotgun selection (screw 870's lol). You're not in New Hampshire are you?

This one came with a 5 shell holder as part of the ATI stock, love it!

You just can't go wrong with a 500 (but change the safety switch to metal as soon as you get a reaonable chance).
