Default My grandfather's old Lefever 12 ga

When my father died my mother gave to me my grandfather's old Lefever 12 ga. shotgun. I'm 62 now but I remember going out pigeon hunting with my father and grandfather when I was 12. This shotgun has a Damascus barrel and a date on the bottom that says 1872. It seems to be in good shape but I know you can't shoot modern ammo through it. What spec's should I be looking for in ammo for this thing (not that I'm going to be shooting it alot). I would like to shoot it once again since it's been 50 years since I've last shot it.

I'll upload some pics,

Thanks

That's a beauty! I'd have a gunsmith look it over. He'll tell you what loads you can, can't put through it. I'm pretty sure you can shoot black powder loads through it, not sure who (if anyone) makes that now.
