i went with a NEF new england firearms for my first shotgun. the pardner pump, its basically an 870 knockoff and cost me 150 new. if you want a basic shootin critters shotgun its perfect. ive dropped it in the mud, sand, river, evidence room, and anywhere else you can imagine and it still works like a charm. its my playin shotgun, i have an 870 for work. if you want something to make tactical get an 870 from a pawn shop and have a gunsmith refinish it in some tactical color. i can pick up beat up 870s for next to nothing. mossbergs are cheap but have zero resale ability. they do load up easier than most other guns though.

I don't know if anyone is still reading/caring about this....but I picked up a fully-synthetic Benelli Nova on 7/15. I've only got 151 rounds through it so far, but it's the smoothest, best acting, most accurate shotgun I've ever handled. Honestly, I was shooting about 5/25 consistently....now I'm shooting more like 18/25. I was a BAD shot, now I'm getting less bad....jokes aside, the gun is making the difference in my performance.
