Default Mossy 500 shorten or buy barrel?

The 500 I bought a while ago that I just bought a new trigger for, I have been trying to decide if I should saw off the barrel to 18.5" from its original 28" I don't hunt or trap shoot, So the longer barrel isn't really of much use, I know I can get an 18.5" from many distributors, But at just under $100.00 I don't think my wife would be thrilled about the purchase.
Thoughts? Build or buy?
It would would be for self defense and some CYA

Buy a good 18.5" barrel, wrap the muzzle end of the long barrel in cloth tape, and tell the missus it is the "backup home defense weapon".

Seriously though, you may want to hunt or shoot trap with it later. Alternatively, if the Anti's keep going the way they are, it might be very valuable on the grey market in the future.

Spend the cash and get the new barrel, best bet all the way around.

I'd recommend you get the 18.5 barrel. If you shorten the longer barrel it instantly makes it useless for it's original intended uses. Also if you shorten the barrel you'll have to drill & tap the barrel for the new bead location.

Could offset some of the cost of the shorter barrel by selling the original barrel. It has to be worth $50-75 to someone.

Thanks all.
I will keep an eye out for an 18.5" barrel and keep the 28" intact.
I just had some crazy thoughts going through my head.
Thanks again
