I thought I'd toss my Hat into the fray? I've had a long History of Owning and Using Remingtons and had a few Mossburgs and I thought a lot of all of them! I did like the way a REM 870 Took down, the Quality of the Blueing, Fit of parts and feel was better on an 870, But I did get a chance to Use the 590 Moss and 500! I too, felt the 590 was more solid, held up as good as the Rem 870 did and I did see a lot of Moss 500's fail! We tested a lot of the rems agaisnst the Moss and the 870 and 590 always held up, the 500, about always had some breakage of parts, something wore down or stopped working, we had 12 870's, 12 590's and 10 500's! These were conditions I saw over a 5 year tour on a destroyer and I oversaw the cleaning and maintenance of the small arms! These were all Military issued weapons, so civ models might act different, as the Military cuts deals with manuf at times and we did get a lower cost? Just my .02 but it did show a pattern and I know what I saw! Funny thing is now, I own neither an 870 or a Mossberg, I now own a Norenco copy of the Ithaca 37? LOL Funny way life deals ya some hands?

I guess I could have saved a lot of money and be driving a used Volkswagon, but there were too many other things I wanted in a vehicle to let money be the only factor. I feel the same way about shotguns.
Different users have different priorities. I shoot Remington 99% of the time. My best friend shoots a Browning 99% of the time. Another friend shot a Benelli. Why do we not feel the need to try to convert each other? Why do people on an internet forum feel the need?
I do not believe there is a substantial difference in reliability between the subject shotguns. Use whichever gun you prefer in the best of health.
Oh, one more thing. Next time you are at a major trapshooting event, count the Mossbergs. It'll be a whole, whole lot easier than trying to count the Remingtons.
