mossberg pistol grip 21 or 18??

so after work today me and a couple co-workers went to the local sporting goods store and one of the guys is 20 and was looking at a Mossberg 500 12 that just has the pistol grip and a 18.5" barrel. The big question was if you needed to be 18 or 21 to buy one of these shottys. Id say 18 but being the thing is strictly pistol grip i could see where the 21 would be the age. I live in Montana any ideas on an age? Hell the kid behind the counter couldnt even tell us but i dont thing he could even tell us the difference between a rifle and a shotgun.

need to be 18, it counts as a shotgun. pistol grip dont matter.

If it's over 26" its a long gun,you need only be 18(unless)-you live in a place like I do-Michigan-where they consider anything under 30" a pistol and must be registered and be 21 to buy(gay)(dumb)(stupid)!!

Sorry, gents, I have to disagree with you- and the ATF HAS ruled on this- it is 21.

A shotgun and rifle are defined as "fired from the shoulder". And that pistol gripped Mossy is not a pistol, it is an "other". If you read the regs, it says 18 for rifles and shotguns- 21 for "other". BTW, that includes buying a bare receiver. It actually is listed on the FFLs bound book as "other".

I did NOT say it would make sense- and I did not write the stupid reg.
