I have one for hunting and I'ld like to make it a little more for home defense. I'ld like to get a shorter barrel 18.5" - 20", also tactical stock (not colapsable T-6 style but with pistol grip and shoulder stock also) I'm also considering a mag extension. Can anyone tell me where to buy these items. I have read that most model 500 stocks and fore grips fit the 835. I really want the shorter barrel. Any help would be appreciated.

Try Midway USA or Brownell, If you live near a gun dealer have him look that stuff up in the Ellett's catalog. This is a dealer's stocking catalog but these guys have just about everything firearm related. Elletts is normally the first place I look when researching products for a customer. We order such a large volume from Ellett that the shipping is normally included in the price.

For as cheap as they are, I'd suggest getting a model 500 and leaving the 835 the way it is for hunting. I tried having a shotgun for hunting & changing it back & forth for home defense and it sucked. I MUCH prefer having a dedicated home defense shotgun. You should be able to pick up a good used 500 for 100-175$. That way you won't have to change it back & forth every time you want to go hunting or practice shooting clays. Also you can get a 18.5" or 20" barrel for the 500 whereas you'd not find a 835 barrel that short.

i have a mossy 835 , and boy ! with those 3 1/2 shells ! she kills on both ends !!

I was able to get an 18.5" barrel directly from Mossberg. I added the new stock and foregrip from ATI. Then put a model 500 side saddle and barrel shroud with ghost ring sights on. My son refers to it now as my zombie gun, and YES peaboody it does kill at both ends with 3" 00 loads.
