Mossberg 590A vs. 590A1
Hi all.
I have the opportunity to purchase a Mossberg 590A1 model 52682 which is a 6 shot 18 1/2" heavy barreled shotgun with a speed feed stock, I have had my eye on a Mossberg 590A model 50645 that is a 9 shot regular 20" barreled shotgun.
Here is the rub, I don't hunt, So I wouldn't be using either shotgun for anything but targets or home defense.
What I am wondering is the 590A1 is going to be about $60 more then the 590A Is it worth spending the extra money in your opinion? Money is somewhat an issue, I can afford either one, But do I NEED the 590A1?
FWIW, The 590A is a retail sell and the 590A1 is a private.
This will be my first shotgun purchase, I have handled a few of the Mossberg 500/590's and I like the fit and feel of them, I prefer the Parkerized finish more than the Blued, But I can live with either.
Thanks for any thoughts and or suggestions.

oh, well thats the million dollar question. Is the extra 4 round worth the length too? Or the weight? Personally for HD I would go with the shortest possible, but then again the A1 is what 2" longer and has 4 more rounds? Thats a good compromise to me. It all boils down to preference and the obvious what you can afford, some people $60 is a lot of money and others it's pocket change.

The A1 was 1.5" shorter and only carried 6 shots +4 in the stock, I said to hell with it, I bought the 590A1 The people at the retail shop wouldn't budge on the price so it ended up being $25 more for the A1 and I got a Black Voodoo Scabbard with it.
Thanks for the thoughts.

Here's one of my 590's like the one you were looking at buying its the 8+1, the second one is one of my 500's built with all 590 internals and trigger system sporting a 18" barrel with a ported 28" barrel to swap for longer shots.

Very nice guy's
I have been reading around, I may look into a +1 or +2 Choate magazine extension and shorten it to barrel length and make a new endcap for it, But we shall see.
I kind of like the way the speed feed stock works, It may take a little getting use to how to remove the shells without rocketing them across the room.
I gave it a good cleaning, WalMart(I know) had 100 2.75" shot shells for $24.00 so I grabbed a box for some practice, I can't wait to get it out and punch some tickets.
