I've had a 590a1 for decades. Bought it in the 90's. Your going to love how smooth it will get in a couple hundred shots. Mine is like buttering a stick of butter to rub against another stick of butter.

When you get it don't be dismayed if its a little stiff that goes away quickly.

The action is pretty stiff but ever since I cleaned and lubed her, after continuing to work the slide it seems to be loosening up a bit. Also the safety is pretty stiff as well is this normal with this shotgun. One more thing mines didn't come with the plug mines is the 8+1 version do the only send the plug wit the 6 shot ones.

Congrats. I have a 590a1 and it's been great. I like the feel of the heavy barrell. the action was stiff when I bought it, like others have stated. I took it clay shooting and ran about 150rds of #7 shot through it. Cleaned it, oiled it, and the action was noticeably smoother. Great pump gun enjoy it.

The safety should loosen up quickly. If the safety doesn't loosen up quick send it back to mossberg. The safety is fastened with a safety screw. It's not unusual for the detent to slip out of place. No need to buy a set of safety screwdrivers to fix an error by Mossberg. Mossberg will send a prepaid shipping label. Once the detent is set properly it should not need further repair.

The fundamental design change of the 590 series from the 500 series addressed a major shortcoming for hard use.

The 590 uses a conventional magazine cap that allows the magazine spring and follower to be easily removed for regular cleaning or magazine spring replacement.

The 500 series requires removing the entire magazine tube from the receiver to remove the magazine spring and follower for cleaning or replacement.

Seeing as how you have the M590a1, do you run a sling on it. I'm looking at a single point bungie sling from SOE but I wanna know if this shotgun to heavy to run 1 on it. Or any single point sling for that matter.

I have a 2 point sling on mine. I've honestly never used a single point sling, although I'd like to try it on one of my carbines. I think it would be all up to you of you want to run a single point sling. I think its about 8 lbs empty sooooo that's not too much heavier than an AR with a 16" barrel, optics, and a light. I'd try it out. Assuming you have other guns, if you don't like the sling, throw it on one of your others.

Well here you go guys, sorry it took so long to post pics. Here's a few pics of my newly acquired M590a1. Better pics coming soon after I receive a few items that I ordered for her, light, a rail and the viking tactics mount, OSOE side saddles and single point sling. Also ordered the 12 gauge Micro Rig from them as we'll. imageuploadedbyfirearms-talk1393386976.325519.jpg imageuploadedbyfirearms-talk1393387003.303996.jpg the buttpads is real spongyimageuploadedbyfirearms-talk1393387063.747227.jpg. Overall it's a grate shotgun, I'm very happy with my choice.
