Best deal on the market IMO, and basically all you need.

Just went thru this decision process. ...I watched a lot of YouTube and read countless articles...its pretty much a toss up...the 870 feels more refined but the moss has better ergonomics....accessories are plenty and readily available for both...disassembly seems easier on the Mossberg
I pretty much decided to go for whichever I could find at the right price first....I ended finding the Mossberg used for $250...
Hope this helps..

Mossberg 500 is blued, not a good blue job either, a little cheaper metal & design. Recently they've been outselling the rem 870. However the 870 has a fantastic parkerized finish & is significantly more resistant to rust & wear. Also handles heat better than blued steel. I find takedown on the 500 simpler but the 870 seems to be made of higher quality materials. Both have a huge aftermarket. 500 is cheaper but lower quality (but still a great gun) & the 870 is higher quality but more expensive. Hard to choose, but I had to snag a 7+1, 18 1/2" barrel rem 870. Now it has a 2 tone duracoat paint job & a collapsible Blackhawk stock.

The 870 has never been of better quality than the 500. And in 2009 Remington farmed out some of the manufacturing for the 870 to NEF, thats when they really started to go downhill....

That is a matter of opinion, I will say for my dollar the 870 has always been of better quality than the 500. The farm out issue I have no knowledge of so I won't comment but I wouldn't run down the entire brand because a certain percentage of them may have been made by another party who may or may not have issues with quality.

It isnt "may or may not" i see it all the time. Mossbergs NEVER come back to the shop. Remingtons come back mostly for fail to eject issues, and rough spots in the action causing them to short stroke. Ever notice how an old Mossy is smooth as butter, and no matter how many rounds you put through the Remy, the action is still rough,sticks,clunky......
