Ive taken it off the gun. It makes a quick 15 shot bandolier you can grab real quick if you need it

i have one like this. i highly doubt i'd ever need it though. maybe a SHTF scenario. that's why i bought a shotgun that holds 7+1. hopefully 9 people wont break into the house at once. lol. and i have the buttstock shell holder, so i've got a total of 12 shells on the gun.

To be honest, just pick one. Both are good quality shotguns, both are extremely reliable, and you would be happy with either one. You can't really go wrong with a 500 or an 870.

Shoulder each, how do they feel. Make sure they feel comfortable. As far as the pistol grip goes, good luck. I would rather have a buttstock with the pistol grip. I usually watch hickock45 on youtube when deciding on a gun I think he has a review of both.

Im in the market for my first shotgun. I am torn between the 2 above models and would like to get insight from some of you that may own them or know more about them. FYI this will be a dual purpose firearm as I will use for some hunting but mostly home protection. I tend to lean more on the tactical side as I would prefer a pistol grip. Let me know what ya think!

Thanks,
Also I wouldn't get a pistol grip for hunting.

I was making this same decision last year, between the same models. I personally went with the Mossberg 500 because I liked the handling a little better, especially the location of the safety. Since mine is for turkey hunting first, and home defense second, I liked that I could simply put my thumb up on the safety and enagage/disengage it without moving my firing hand at all. The trigger guard safety on the 870 did not allow that comfortably. I had to take my hand away from the firing position to engage/disengage the safety.
However, as someone mentioned, if you're dead set on a pistol grip, the 870 safety is better. You can engage/disengage the safety without removing your hand from the pistol grip, whereas a Mossberg 500 requires you to remove your hand from the pistol grip.

Pretty neat how that works, eh?

I have 2 500's.i like the fact that it can be upgraded easier and more parts readily available.

TWW has been going thru stuff recently. Let me fix that for him...

I have a Mossy 590a1 and I'm glad I have it, but I have a really hard time finding extras and parts and add-ons that are designed for it.

As soon as I can, I'd like to add an 870 to my collection. The 870 is like the Glock of the shotgun world, meaning that everybody makes parts for the 870.
