Default Mossberg 500 JIC

Has anyone seen these Mossberg 500 kits that come in the waterproof tube? I was thinking about picking one up as a home defense shotgun. Reasonable choice?

Any thoughts about whether the Marinecote silver finish is worth an extra $40? I wouldn't be using it on a boat, but it might be nice to know it could hold up better long-term against moisture?

If youre not gonna be parachuting into the rockies or chasing pirates on the high seas then these kits are a waste of space.

Get a shotgun with a stock, there are plenty of good Mossberg 500s with any type of stock. Even in a HD situation, having a stock is better than a pistol grip.

I sold alot of these so far, people seem to like the kit, I only sell the marine version tho, if you dont want all the surivivor stuff that comes with it just buy you a 500 persuader, it comes with both stocks, full size and the pistol grip and 18" barrel on it, we sell that one for 229 ..OH..as for the kit..... I sell most by telling people its a anti billary kit LOL

Thanks..I went ahead and got the Mariner yesterday. Sounds like I could have saved a few bucks by not getting the kit. I kind of like the tube though.

I'm looking at tactical stocks for it on eBay.

You should try www.gunbroker.com. eBay has shown it's stance towards firearms quite clearly.

If you can afford it, why not get both?

If I could only have one shotgun, I agree that I'd want one with a stock.

However, the JIC would be good in "SHTF" situations where concealability is an important factor. That's obviously what it's intended for.

I'm sure the folks at Mossberg didn't intend for it to be somebody's primary shotgun.

I have one of the JIC mossbergs. I actually have the one pictured and just bought another one in the desert camo. I really like the shotgun and the kit that it comes in. good to leave in the case and throw in the truck.

Has anyone heard of the Knoxx SpecOps stock? It's supposed to reduce recoil and I'm trying to find one for my Mossberg on either eBay or GunBroker.

hows that gonna reduce recoil unless theres a buffer spring in the stock? Might as well have factory stock on it
