Mossberg 500 firing pin problem

After oiling my gun I racked it a few times, the safety would engage every so often. Finally I heard metal clinking in the gun & afterthat I couldn't rack it. I found out the firing pin came out. I put it back in & after a few more minutes of racking the same thing happened. Does anyone have an instructional on how to properly insert the firing pin?

Sounds like more than just a firing pin problem. First off the firing pin should not just fall out unless it has snapped in half. Also, racking the slide should not set the safety on a Mossberg 500. Sounds to me like something is not right with the bolt and receiver. I would tear it down and give it a good going over before loading the gun. Putting the pin back in with a bolt issue may lead to a ND or slam fire issue, certainly not something to risk with a 12ga, or any weapon

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a new bolt might be in my near future.

The pin has a groove punched into it, I flipped it over.
