I doubt you will regret buying a mossberg. Own two and love them both.

Thanks, it's amazing that I probably don't have $200 tied up in that gun, yet it is one of my favorites.

My first shotgun when I was a kid was a Mossberg 500 in 20 ga. with a 28" imp. mod. choke in it and it'll outshoot most 12 ga. guns. Back then I used it for pheasant, quail, duck and rabbit hunting and never felt outgunned by the guys who were hunting with their 12 ga.'s. I think we paid $49 for it new at Western Auto when we bought it.

The debate about Remington vs. Mossberg will rage on forever, but I've had very positive experiences in my life using Mossbergs, so I know they will perform well.

I own the 590A1 (but its the 18.5" bbl, so 5+1 capacity). I also purchased the Knoxx recoil reducing stock. While it is a little easier on the shoulder, the stock has a nasty cheek slap. If you don't plan to shoot large volumes of shells at a time, you might like it.

I also have a Mossberg 500 Persuader with 20 inch barrel and 8 shot tube and love it.

Default Mossberg 500

Bought a 500 about 7 years ago as a trap gun. For less than $100, I bought an 18 1/2 in. barrel and pistol grip from Midway....it's the best of both worlds, since with a screwdriver and allen wrench I can convert it back to a trap gun in less than 3 minutes. The 500 is popular for a lot of reasons, price and reliability. With so many access. available for it, it's a great weapon.
