Default Mossberg 500

I am looking into purchasing a tactical style 12ga shotgun and was looking at the Mossberg Model 500 or 590 Series. I am really considering the Model 500 Special Purpose (Mossberg Model 500 Special Purpose Shotgun 50440, 12 Gauge, 18 1/2", 3" Chmbr, 6 Shot Synthetic, Cyl) and was wondering if anyone has ever fired this weapon. On top of that I plan on adding a tactical stock (Konxx K08200C Special Ops NRS Adjustable Stock For Mossberg 500/590/835/535) and a rail mounted red dot sight with a flashlight and laser (Amazon.com: Barska Cross Dot Electro Sight Multi Rail Tactical Rifle Scope (1x30): Sports & Outdoors). I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this?

Thanks.

i have the Mossberg 500 Persuader and i love it!! The only difference between mine and the one your looking at is mine has a 20" barrel and a 8 shot tube instead of 18.5" 6 shot.

I would look into a 20" barrel if i were you not for barrel length but for the extra 2 shots.

the kick is manageable i think but i shoot a 500 S&W regularly. if your going to put a tac stock on it then that doesnt matter.

when you do get it please let me know how the side rail works id like to get one for mine.

My tastes are a little more mellow, so I got the standard 500 with the 18"

barrel, 5 shot capacity, standard stock, and an additional 28" barrel.

But the 590A1 series has a higher amount of shots,(8+1, IIRC) and it's built

pretty much as a tactical shotgun.

I love my 500, never a problem and I shoot it a lot. This is actually the second one I have owned. The first one was a pistol grip 8 shot I had in my late teens early 20s. That gun took a beating and bounced around in a logging crumby for about two years, shot almost daily and never cleaned, never a problem. That is why I purchased my latest one but made it into this

No experience with your sight choice but Knoxx/Blackhawk make a nice sturdy stock and the NRS should be great.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the insight, guys. I had another quick question. I decided that I would look into one of the Model 500s that already had the collapsible stock on it instead of fooling around to add one. Here's what caught my eye: Mossberg 500 Special Purpose Shotgun w/Tri-Rail Forearm 50421, 12 Gauge, 18.5 in, 3 in Chmbr, Telesc. My question is: Does anyone know if this is pre-drilled (I'm still learning my terms so forgive me if that's not right) for me to attach a rail and subsequently a Weaver mount Barksa Red Dot?

Thats a good question, I know my old 500 from the mid 80's doesn't have pre-drilled holes, But my 590A1 does, I just added a mount on it yesterday.

Able's seems to be a tad on the expensive side, Do you have any local sporting good stores in your area? Locally there is a Mossberg 590 for $379.00

My Mossberg 500 12 ga. started life as a turkey gun and still has a 24" barrel with various accu-chokes from xtra-full to cylinder. I picked up an extra 18" barrel for it at Cabelas for $79 and put a green fiber optic bead on it with a little flat camo paint to match the rest of the gun and it's been good to go for HD duty. The gun is 100% and hasn't ever had any kind of failure. It's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot 00-buck loads with that short barrel. It flat tear stuff up.

My 80s 500 wasn’t drilled for scope base either but as I was looking at 500s in local shops this time around they were all drilled and taped with plugs in the holes ready to go. That one you have a link to should be ready to go. Just fyi the factory collapsible stock I looked at wasn’t near as nicely built as a knoxx imo. If you look around hard you could find a 500 with PG in the high 200s and put a knoxx nrs on for like 50 bucks or so. I you plan on running an optic look into the powerpak add on for a good cheek weld that will line you up with an optic better . Mesa Tactical makes a nice high tube stock for this as well but costlier ….nice though.
