Default Mossberg 500 18.5 inch barrel wood stock

I'm looking for a Mossberg 500 with an 18.5 inch barrel and wood furniture but that's nearly impossible to find. Does anyone have any opinions on which would be easier, either buying wood stock Mossberg 500 with hunting barrel and then changing out the barrel or buying one with a synthetic pistol grip and an 18.5 inch barrel and changing out to wood furniture?

If you look around , you might find a combo pkg like that. If not.. buy the Field gun with the vent rib, Then get a home def barrel for it.

there's usually a lot of wood stocks for sale cheap on ebay & gunbroker. if you can get a good deal on a pistol grip gun that might be a good way to go.

I myself bought a used 500 with wood stock & the normal bird barrel for $120 then bought a used security barrel for $60 on ebay.

You can get the wooden hunting model at Walmart for $267 and a security barrel on sale for about $80 if you look around a bit----and be set up for most anything.

Not only does the wood look good --its pretty much the shortest LOP stock Mossberg offers and fit (for me) is near perfect.

I had to change out the overly long stock on my Maverick 88, negating any savings of just buying the Mossberg 500 in the first place.

I bought a combo set with plastic stock for a little under $300 OTD. I then sent the modified choke vent rib barrel in to Polychoke. I had it shortened to 20" with the Polychoke installed. It is now a survival gun. Very capable for HD/SD but you can still use it in the field with bird shot. No tools or screw in pieces required. Going full choke extends the 00 range to 50/60 yards. There is also a rifled slug setting. I would consider selling the unfired 18.5" cylinder bore barrel.

If one is bugging out carrying a shotgun and ammo is a big load. 1,000 rounds of 22LR is heavy.

Like this but with the only wood stock and 18.5 barrel. IT is an option. - http://www.mossberg.com/product/shotguns-pump-action-mossberg-500-500-combo-standard-trigger/54243
