Kind of like its okay to shoot 2.75 shells in a 3 inch shotgun chamber, don't shoot 3 inch in a 2.75 chamber.

Check out post #9 in this link.
I didn't know that another one of many things I've learned off of this site

never shoot anything in your shotgun without some type of choke installed, as it will ruin the threads where the choke tube screws into and in turn ruin the barrel.

Yes you can use a slug in a none rifled barrel and it doesn't have to be improved cylinder I ussually use modified its what found works the best but I made the mistake one time of firing a slug through a .660 turkey choke and still nothing bad happened. I wouldn't recommend doing it but it is like its going to blow the barrel apart I know from first hand experience. And as far as taking your choke tube completely out NEVER!!! Fire a shotgun that takes tubes without some kind of tube in it bc it will ruin the threads and you won't be able to but a choke tube back in it and as far as the barrels go the only barrels I know of that you cent fire a slug through are the oversized mossberg 835, 930, and 935 barrels because they are 12 gauge chambered but a large .775 bore which is a 10 gauge sized bore

Never do. I meant I would change it.

Default Did I read you right?

I think the OP said he has a smooth bore barrel and was concerned about firing rifled slugs thru it. Regardless, that's what such slugs were made for! They may impart an immaterial amount of spin in the barrel but they're really "rifled" to minimize frictionin the gun and make swaging thru a choke easier...

A slug will be shrunk to the size of the choke and do no harm but I would not make a habit of shooting them thru anything tighter than Modified. IC is indeed probably the "best." Technicallt you can even fire rifled slugs thru rifled barrels -- will leave lead fouling and accuracy may be affected.
