see one shotgun and three different barrels would cover most all your needs for a shotgun.
Oh ok that's exactly what I was looking for as far as info. Btw the 20-22'' barrel should that be rifled or not? And I hear a lot of the new 870s have some issues but havnt heard what they are. But I have seen a few new 500s with issues with shells not coming out of the mag tube so I figure its a toss up.

Are you set on a 500 or 870? If not check out some other guns that in my opinion are better like the benelli nova or Winchester sxp

the rifled barrel? just have to see what's available when you get ready for one.

well, until people start posting proof of these so-called "problems" i wouldn't worry too much.

i look at this way, unless a person offers up facts or proof that support their statements, it lacks credibility. i have asked several people to back up their statements that they made in regards to different firearms. have yet to see proof. can't believe everything you read on the internet!

the Benelli is a good shotgun, but i doubt he wil be able to get it with his budget.

the Winchester SXP is another good option. i have one for SD usage. very nice shotgun for the price.

No I'm not set on them just figured there the most basic go to guns. Was also considering the mossberg marverick 88 for the price I could get 2 one with a longer barrel and one with a shorter one.

Ok just wondering if a non rifled barrel with rifled slugs would be good enough or if I should find a rifled one. Also have not seen any issues with the 870s but have personally run into the issue on the 500 it was my buddys gun be we took it to a gun smith and he filed a part and now it works

the Maverick M88 is another good option. i have one. decent shotgun for the price and the barrels for Mossy M500 fit it as well. i picked up the last one, used for $125 last year. has the 28" vented rib barrel. it's the second one i have owned. not a bad shotgun and well within your budget.

personally i don't have lotsof experiance with the rifled barrels. i have always had the smoothbores, using slugs in the past.

was probably just small burr causing problems.

a lesson i learned a long time ago, if it has moving parts, it will wear out at some point and give you problems!

Always heard the down side to the 88s were that the barrels wernt removeable? I've shot about 100 mixed rounds out of one without a single issue however it was pretty light and recoil was a bit more with heavy loads

not true. the barrels that fit the M500 will fit the M88. Mavericks are made by Mossberg. many of the parts that fit the M500 will fit the M88.

check out the Maverick website.
