"Ranger" was a name Winchester attached to their basic, no frills firearms. Kind of like the Remington "Express". The only difference was finish. Matte blue and uncheckered oil finished hardwood stocks (synthetic sometimes I think). All parts interchange including barrels. There are some internal differencds between the 1200 and 1300 series. The 120 is the "Ranger" pump shotgun. Mine is mechanically a 1200.

I have a nearly new 1300 Defender. A 1957 A-5 12 ga in 2 3/4 and a 1965
A-5 12 ga in 3 inch magnum. These cover all my bases (I have 2 Jap barrels for the mag gun for waterfowling).

I only have one, for now , Mossberg 500, but will be adding another very soon! Cleary one just isnt enough! The next one I get I plan to set up for long range field use, coyote and deer...
