Like I need another shotgun...
Today I came across this Winchester 1300 Ranger for a $175.
I checked the barrel/bore for fouling found no signs, checked the action-smooth, looked it over with a fine tooth comb. This shotgun has to be the best 1300 I've seen, barely any use what-so-ever. Makes me wonder why so cheap? I buy the gun figuring if there are problems I can fix it at a minimal cost. I take my new to me shotgun to my local range. At the range I borrow some tools and take apart the gun and inspect & clean everything. Unbelievable the gun is basically new. I reassemble the gun and buy some ammo, clays and range time. The gun performed flawlessly!!
This makes 7 shotguns for me. I have 3 Remingtons; (2) 870s, (1) 1100.
3 Winchesters; (1) Model 12, (1) Model 1500 XTR, now (1) 1300 Ranger and 1 Weatherby SAS Field. So that's 4 pumps and 3 semi-auto's.
I plan on making my new to me Win. 1300 Ranger a competition gun, but I have to do some work to it first; trigger pull needs to be less, action can get better, and get some custom competition choke tubes. :D
Did I go over-board here?
How many shotguns do you own?
One, and it has an 18.5" barrel on it. ;)
One of my 870's has a 18.5" barrel.
The other 870 I use for competition and Turkey hunting. :)
Two Saiga 12's
Mossy 500 converted to 590
stevens bolt action
I think you and I are in a pretty close race:D
It is no secret to the FTF members that I am a 1200/1300 fan. $175??!!! Great deal. The only problem I have is...Is it a 1300 or a Ranger? These should be mutually exclusive terms. The Ranger I have is a model 120. The 1200 is called a 1200 and the 1300 is a 1300. I have never seen Ranger and 1300 appear on the same gun. Is is perhaps a Ranger receiver and 1300 barrel? This could explain the action. The Rangers were not finished out as nicely as the 1300's. My 1200 is every bit as smooth and fast as a 1300, but it is well broken in and smooth as glass after almost 30 years of use.
The Rangers will smooth out as they break in or you can expidite this process if you wish.
Great find. I'll give you $200 for it right now.
I was going to offer $200 until I saw robo beat me to it. I'll go $225. I LOVE 1300s!!

WHOA,WHOA,WHOA guys (Robo & spitty) the guns a keeper,
and I'm gonna keep it. :) I have 7 shotguns and wish I had 7 more. :D
I guess it's a Model 1300 not a 1300 Ranger.
There's no "Ranger" identification on the receiver. The barrel has "Winchester Model 1300" engraved on it. I had gotten the "Ranger" reference from one of my reference manuals (see picture below). Obviously the manual is wrong.
I hope the break-down diagram isn't incorrect.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
As far as the action- it's probably not broken-in yet. I feel that the 75 loads I ran through it yesterday has been the most use this gun has ever had. I believe the action could be better. I'm going to check into it. I'm totally impressed with the gun. At $175 I couldn't refuse the offer. I wish I could find 10 more deals like this one.
Robo & Spitty, how many shotguns do you own?
