I picked up a Mossberg 500 as a "house gun" a while back when I was working nights and my wife was home alone. I got it brand new for $204.00 with 2 barrels, (18" cylinder riot barrel, and a 28" Modified with a full vented rib). Mossberg sells these things by the box car load. The action on mine was a bit stiff when I got it. I remedied that by oiling the hell out of it, and taking it out and running a case of Trap loads through it. Now it's slicker than snot. Overall they're a lot of gun for the money, and about the best self defense weapon you can own.
I have the Mossberg 590A1 and am very happy with it. I don't need anything added to it other than a heat shield that I had bought.
The purpose of gun is for home defense. But I will say as much, after shooting the mossy, I feel sorry for any armed-burglar on the receiving end of its power. Wow!
