Ithaca 37

Yesterday at a gun show, I purchased an Ithaca Model 37 in 12 ga. The serial number dates it to ca. 1949, and it has enough dents and dings to show its age, but still in pretty good shape. The barrel is marked 'full choke', but it has an adjustable choke mounted to the the end of the barrel. Would that have much effect, since the gun was full choke to begin with? How would it handle slugs for deer hunting (Oklahoma is one of those screwy states that does not allow buckshot, only slugs for deer)?
Its primary use is going to be for midnight burglar deterrence anyway. :eek:

When a polychoke was installed the gunsmith was supposed to remove the old choke, usually by reaming it out. So in theory the polychoke SHOULD work as any other choke when shooting slugs.

I don't recommend using slugs with this setup due to;
The tighter the choke (Full, Mod,etc.) the more pressure there is on the barrel, the action and more stress is placed on the muzzle.

Ok, thanks for the responses. I'll probably just stick with the rifle for deer, then, rather than risk damaging the Ithaca.
