Loading with small projectiles was common. Thus any smoothbore could be a shotgun. Now, if you are talking about a twin barrel firearm specifically designed for use with shot, I'll still bet that the double barrel fowling piece precedes any double with rifled barrel by a hundred years or so. Wouldn't surprise me if the earliest one was a matchlock. Who did it say invented the double barrel shotgun? |

she finds deer | Very true and they're all shoulder cannons from what I've seen. __________________ If the pain is lacking so is the discipline... "the only 911 call I need is chambering a round" - Mr. Muller, MO car dealer |

need to sell a kidney to buy. Baikal, Remington, maybe EAA? 30-06 and 45-70, maybe other calibers. I've seen an company at gun shows here in Oregon that does conversions of old double shotguns into double rifles. Never paid a lot of attention to them, but I don't remember the pricing being too crazy. A light double in 30-30, 303, 30-40 45-70 or some other rimmed cartridge with express sights or a low power scope would make a GREAT brush gun. Short, quick, and accurate enough. | |
