Default I need a shotgun for pest birds!

At my family farm we have a lot of starlings and house sparrows that need to be shot. I've shot several with a bolt action .22 with CCI bird****, but it doesn't give reliable killing power. I need a shotgun to kill these birds on the ground and in the air, but they don't fly very high. I am young, so a 20 gauge or .410 would be best. I want to be able to fire quickly as well, with at least a 3 round tube magazine. Pump action preferred. I'm NOT looking for a pretty, high price shotgun, but one that is reliable and at a price range of 325-500 dollars. Thanks for any help!

I picked up a nice used .410 today at a trade day so my mom can shoot sparrows around her house. A nice single shot for $165.

Get a maverick 88. All the hard wear from a Mossberg 500 works on it.

I looked at it on Mossberg's website, and the price looks good. Is it built well? I don't want a cheaply built gun.

I have an 88 and the 500. The 88 is lighter and goes bang every time but I take my Mossey bird hunting. I shoot it better. It has a longer barrel and is full choke vs the 88 is modified. But yes the 88 is a good gun for the money.

See if you can find an old Stevens Springfield around. I got one a

while back for around 200$. A 410 with, IIRC, a six shot capacity,

ghost loaded.

Any shotgun will do the job. A 20 ga is going to be cheaper to shoot and you can get buckshot for self defense.

How much will 20 gauge birdshot cost compared to .410?
