Internet parroting about the shot size... Never use smaller than #2 (.15 caliber) Shot for HD unless that's all ya got, they are within 15 yards, and THEN think twice about it!

I will agree with that. Currently I am loaded with 00 because Oklahoma is a Make My Day state. #2 shot would be the smallest I would consider for self defense. I shoot a lot. Some skeet and several of the bird seasons rabbit and squirrel. #6-8 is great for small game bit there is a reason you would not use it of you were going hog, deer or Bear hunting. Small game shot would simply piss them off much like it would a human at 30 ft. Especially if they were pumped up with any of many street drugs. Essentially I live in the country and we are responsible for our own protection when the sun goes down. We do have a police department that patrols during the day but a call to the police department of the night means that they have to call and wake one of the officers that are sleeping. It could be a while. These are the reasons I trust 00 for my protection.

I have a Mossy with a Blackhawk Gen 2 recoil suppression stock & forearm. Also low velocity 00 buckshot 2 3/4 loads. I pray to God I never have to use it for home defense. But if I do, I am very confident it will do the job. Love shooting 3" 00 magnum at the range with this gun.

I have too many tight areas in my house. I especially have one long main hallway to the bedrooms. While this would make a great funnel of death, it's just not feasible do to bedroom door placement. I guess a pistol grip persuader model might work, but I prefer to shoulder a shotty. I am a competent pistol shooter, so that is my go to in a defensive situation. Offensive may very well be a shotgun or carbine.

BB is the smallest shot size for HD. I keep a double 20 with #3 buck handy.

At 15ft, 7-1/2 target loads are still going to be somewhat effective. They will lack knockdown power, but the soft tissue damage is still going to be outlandishly painful.

I prefer a good turkey load with a nice payload:

Well, I own a shotgun and if it came to it, I would use it, so I am at least as qualified as all the other people who have never, ever fired a shotgun round in anger. I would grab the #1 buck that is about 20 years old. And I will use a 28" barrel. If I can hit a duck I can hit a perp.

I have a pardner pump. I use It for everything, hunting, RD (room defense, I'm only 13!) and my bug out gear, prac-tactical primary.

12 gauge mossy here. And the quick answer for home defense rounds is whatever you have when shtf. 00 is nice but birdshot is effective at home defense ranges. 00 has a high pass through and you need to be concerned about others in the house you don't want shot...
