What studies exactly? any links?

I was once told that by a friend of mine who happens to be a state trooper.

That being said I use 00 buck in my NEF with a very short but legal barrel and top folding stock. My hd shotgun stays in the closet outside the safe so I can get to it quickly, plus my 1911 is always out cause it rides on my hip when I leave the house.

I had an 870 with a 18.5" barrel on it and it always stayed under the bed loaded with high brass 3" buffered #2 shot, had 3 000 buck and 2 slugs in side saddle on the side of it.

I recently bought a Mossberg 500 3 in 1 combo for the purpose of using the 18.5" barrel for HD and the 28" for a spare bird gun. The combo came with a regular stock and pistol grip. Although lots of people insist that HD shotguns should stay with the full shoulder stock, the PG fit my concealment plan better. However, that pistol grip really wore out my wrist and, too, was a little hard to "grab and go" from my concealment place. I finally ended up buying a birdshead style grip from Shockwave Technologies and it made all the difference in the world. The birdshead is much easier to grab, bring to target ...and diffuses the discharge energy without beating up my hand. Really like it. For HD, the mossberg 18.5" is my bedside weapon (very easy to maneuver in my house). I also have a 38 w/red dot and a few other things hidden around. I guess part of my reason for choosing the shotty is that it's just a lot of fun to shoot (so gets used and practiced with)
