Just heard by word of mouth that they aren't very durable.

I keep my mossberg 590 mariner beside my bed. It helps me sleep at night.

I've heard of other things loaded in shotgun shells but havn't heard of using coins (nickles)

What does shooting nickles through your barrel do to it?

it's a well functioning beater, for protection. wouldn't do that to any other i have.

kicks like a mule on lsd, but shreads everything in it's path. dings up the inside of the barrel, but haven't had any catastophic failures, bulges, or splits. washers work also.

Somewhat tacticool mossberg 500, 18.5" barrel, sidesaddle shell holder, plastic furniture. I've had it since 1995; bought it on the way to go dove hunting for $100 at a pawn shop.

Didn't they use a double barrel with dimes in "Young Guns"?

It is sad, when ammo gets this expensive.

i wonder if half dollars or quarters would work in a 10 ga?

don't recall the young guns dimes, i think you can use them in a 20 or 16 gauge.

ball bearings in a 410 isn't too shabby either.

ithaca 37 pump, if you can get one, hold the trigger back and keep pumping

under "normal" circumstances a rem 870 or mossberg pump should due just fine with the shortest barrel you can put on it with 00 buck.

I use 000 buck and slugs. The Winchester Super X 2 Practical Tactical auto I have will hold 9 rounds of 2-3/4" and will also chamber 3-1/2" but with less capactiy in the tube. Too bad they dont make this varient in the Super X 3 that replaced the Super X 2

I STRONGLY recommend NOT shooting shotshells loaded with nickels or any other coins! Ballistic tests have been done on dimes and they fell WAYY short of the myths. This is 1 of those "don't try at home kids" type things!

I would add that shortening the barrel of your shotgun less than the legal length is not good advice either. The last thing you want to be caught with is an illegal firearm if you ever want to own firearms again.
