Default Home grown Survival shotty

So I have this idea and I though it would ask around and see what others think of the idea before I proceed with it.

My thought is to take a n.e.f. single shot 12ga cut the barrel down to 18.5in and then thread it to take chokes. Probably remmy chokes.

I would also like to get a couple short lane arms adapters. Most likely in 22lr and 9mm. I think this would make a nice back packing/ bug out shotty where you dont know if your gonna need to shoot 2 or 4 legged critters.

Im thinking that maybe I would hallow out the butt stock for a storage compartment for the adapters.

So what says you all good idea or just plain dumb. Thanks

I can understand your reasoning but I think you would be disappointed by the results.

if you want screw-in chokes, after having the barrel cut down, have a gunsmith measure the thickness of the barrel. because this will dictate what type or style choke that can be used after the barrel is bored and threaded for a choke.

sounds like a neat little project, but do understand, that having the barrel fitted for chokes will probably exceed the value of the shotgun. let us know how it turns out.

You're going to spend way more than the value of the gun like axxe said. With that said I also did the exact thing to my nef well had a gunsmith do it. It turned out pretty sweet. Also look into the stock that already have the compartments built in unless its just what you want to do.

Im thinking that this will take a while to complete but i like the idea. I think it would make a nice bug out shotty or maybe just a back packing gun. I will post when it comes together and pics. Thanks

Sounds fun, I'd be more inclined to buy a rifle/shotgun combo to start with. Several manufacturers / models can be found some for cheap..... Search Gun broker for ideas.

I shot the military version of one of these in .22hornet and .410...a pad for the buttstock wouldn't weigh THAT much.

http://www.marblearms.com/gamegetter.html This one is no longer available, but makes me wonder, "why not a loooong barreled Taurus Judge"?
