Moving isn't very likely for most people.

Like I said, keep your shotgun handy and your doors locked. Do you have a dog? If its within the realm of possibilities, I recommend getting one. They're great early warning alarms.

I recommend a dog.

Also it might not be a bad idea to think about getting to know your neighbors. At least their names and faces. That way if you see someone you don't recognize, your guard goes up immediately. You could try having a BBQ or something. I'm not sure if that'd be safe though.

Started it sir. It's a colorful story if you can stand the side notes and rabbit trails. But probably not quite what you had in mind. ;-)

What did somebody forget to engage their safety and shoot the dogs front teeth out? Or are we blaming that on the Glock shooters?

I say get a dog too. Good early warning system and a good deterrent. If someone will come into your house past a barking german shepherd, you're probably going to have to shoot them.

And a boa constrictor. It sounds crazy but im serious.

Take walks out side with both. If they ask if the snake is poisonous tell them you don't know he's never bit anyone. It sounds crazy but in a certain (racial) segment of the population a snake in the house is a HUGE deterrent. And somebody crazy enough to handle one is a huge deterrent as well.

Get ADT. With that a dog a shotgun and flood lights all around ur house the element of surprise and stealth is gone for the criminal.

ADT is a bad option. They have a 3 minute delay in calling you, and sometimes they make the decision on their own just to NOT call. This has actually happened to several people I know when their house had been burglarized. They arrived at their homes to find the alarm still going off but never got a phone call. When they called ADT all they got were lame excuses. No apology and no change in their monitoring service. Local security monitoring companies usually give better deals and actually call you immediately.
