5+1 18.5 inch mossberg 500. Not a fan of loading up guns with "tactical" stuff but if that's what you want, the 500 is hard to beat.

+1 Both are good, the Mossberg is like a rock and will last a life time.

The accessories for the Mossberg are a little less expensive than they are for the Remington.

However the main reason I gave the Mossberg a +1 is because over the last 10 years or so, the quality of Mossberg's have went up. While the quality of Remington's has went down.....

JMO....

I wish I got one of these when I got my mossberg. It was 20$ more but I wanted the *tacticool* looking shotgun. Now I want a regular stock on it.

Mossberg and Remmington make great shotguns. I've shot both.
It is higher in your price range but the FN semi auto in all its tacticool glory is MSRP of $850 and an excellent defensive, offensive and just fun shotgun.
I almost picked the FN over the Benelli M4 but I could afford the price difference at the time and, well, it's a Benelli!
