Here's some pictures from some hunts its been on with me, they are inexpensive, and can have other barrels put on them as well.
Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.

Thanks, Brett

No problem at all, I just think if you go buy him something you think would work and it doesn't fit him, it will take the enjoyment out of him trying to learn to use it properly, he will have to adapt to it, vs if he has something that he not only likes but fits him properly he will enjoy learning ro use it that much more. Just my .02 cents on it.

Cgersty, that's a good point. an ill fitting gun is many times not a pleasure to shoot and can spoil the fun of shooting.

I'm small, just under 5'4" he should be able to manage a full size gun, my Dad has an 870 I've been shooting since I was 15 or 16. You have to keep in mind he'll probably get bigger. I've been the same size since I was 15 and I handle that gun just fine.

I know it well, I have a buddy that is like 5'4 120 lbs soaking wet, he asked me to go with him to shop for a rifle, he doesn't hunt as we can't rifle hunt in Illinois, and just wanted something to punch paper with, I tried to get him into a bolt .223 or .243, or even a 22-250, but the guy at the gun counter knew he didn't know much about rifles, and hands him a 300 win mag, I told him, dude I'm three times your size and that's a lot of rifle ans its gonna knock the snot out of you, the guy told him if he put a bipod on it and shoot it prone you'll be fine, so I just shook my head, he bought it and some rounds for it and out to my farm we go, needless to say 3 shots later and he offered to sell it to me, I declined, now he's stuck with a rifle he can't shoot!

That's the best thing you can do, and if ya find one that fits him and he loves, go back and get it when he's not with you, and surprise him with it, you will be the coolest dad on the planet, my dad did that with my first 22, I picked out a marlin 60 and he said we will see and a week later I came home from school and he gave it to me, to this day I think it was the coolest thing!
