is there a difference between a 22lr and a 22 mag?

edit:
does this 5 round mag mean you cant have more than 5 in a 10 round, or need a smaller mag for the season?

.22 Mag has much greater velocity - ammo is more expensive than the .22 lr also - about $8 for a box of 50 rds.

oops when i said mag, i ment magazine... not 22 mag... my bad on wording...

I want to know if i can have a 10 cap mag, with 5 bullets in it during deer season, or do i need a smaller mag?

You are going to need to check your local hunting laws bro. I don't hunt NY. I think bkt, one of the mods, lives there. Maybe shoot him a PM, he might know. Otherwise call the local PD or Fish and Game department...

Magazine capacity cannot exceed 5 rounds in NY deer season. That means the Magazine cannot hold more than 5 rds. Shotguns must be plugged to reduce the capacity also to 5 rd. This does not apply to .22's because .22's (rimfire) are illiegal to carry afield during the deer season.
