I came upon a Savage Model 720 12 gauge last year and haven't done much with it. I got it for dirt cheap and don't really have any personal attachment to it, however it is a pretty gun and I've seen it advertised for about 4x what I gave for it Savage 720 12GA 26in Very good condition

Is this gun a collectors item and I should be hanging on to it? The reason I ask is because I have a gentleman wanting to trade it straight across for a Smith and Wesson model 65-2 that is in great shape. I'm a revolver guy so it sounds appealing to me, but I don't want to make a poor decision.

There are no WWII markings.

Any help is appreciated!

Does your Savage 720 have the "Humpback" like the Browning Auto 5?
I believe that link you posted is listing that particular model on the high-end.
If it's the model that I'm thinking about they usually sell from 350 & up. Is there anyone local you can check the value of the gun with? I would hate to steer you wrong. The authentic Savage 720's WWII Trench Warfare shotguns with the US stamp on the side of the receiver have been sold to collectors for quite a bit of money. But of course if yours is a WWII model that saw action you would have to authenticate the gun.

I would keep it, but that's just me.

It is a licensed copy of the Browning A-5. As such, it is less desireable than a comparable "real" Browning.

Yeah I think I'll hold onto it. $350 is the assessment I got today from a guy that was interested, for that I might as well hang onto it.

Yeah...do that, when I get out to Colorado we'll go shoot some skeet or take-in a Turkey Shoot or both. When you come out my way we'll go Turkey Hunting.

In real good shape they are worth around $250.00-$275.00. In near perfect shape they might be worth $350.00 but that would be rare.
