Howdy, folks! Sorry it's been so long since I've been on the forums but work has eaten into most of my time the past few months (although, I've gotta say I'm thankful to have a job).

Anyway, my Dad passed away last month and I have several of his guns that I'm cleaning (don't think he did that much). One is a single-shot 12ga that he put camo take on sometime (at least 15 years ago) in the past. Now I'm trying to get it off and I'm pretty sure the finish on the wood is damaged.

Any suggestions on getting this tape off?

I bought an NEF shotgun a few years ago that the previous owner had done that with. I'm not really a fan of real tree camo on anything so it had to come off. Most of it pulled off easily but left a sticky residue so I just used bore solvent to get the sticky off.

Careful removal of the tape and then removing adhesive as described above. The good news is that if there is damage that requires refinishing, you won't lower the monetary value, and the sentimental value will always be there.

I've now gotten the tape off the stock, foregrip, and breechblock. Finish is damaged but that's not too much of an issue since Dad also taught me how to refinish furniture.

The barrel is being the stubborn part now.

Well, done with it for today--the refinishing will have to wait until later this month. The adhesive did indeed damage the finish on the stock and the tape hid quite a few scratches, dings, and spots of surface rust on the metal. Gonna look into what is involved with reblueing the barrel and if its something I can do or take it to a gunsmith.
