ive been wanting a firearm for home defense. as of now i only have a cheap mosin nagant m91/30 and i fear ever having to use that inside (or anywhere near) my house because there are houses all around me( i live in L.A.). since most of the handguns that ive been looking at are a little out of my price range right now, ive decided to get a shotgun. ive been looking at the escort shotguns mp-2 12 ga pump, with rails on the top of the receiver and the forend, rear adjustable ghost ring sight and an adjustable fiber optic front sight. it has a synthetic matte black stock with shotshell holder built in(holds only two shells). and also, the reason why i was drawn to this one, it has a pistol grip. also a neat lookin breeching muzzle and heat shield...anyone have one of these who may want to give me a review or may have suggestions? thank you!

personally i don't care for a bunch of crap all over a shotgun. IMO for a SD/HD shotgun, it's just not needed. i like them simple and uncluttered. pump 12 ga. Mossberg 500 or 590, Maverick 88, Winchester SXP, Remington 870 ect. ect. with an 18-20" barrel and 5-8 round tube will work just fine. i also prefer a full stock and don't care for wrist breaking pistol grips. load it with some good quality loads of your choice and call it a day.

here is my simple and uncluttered Winchester SXP Defender with an 18" barrel and 5 shot tube, with a buttstock shell carrrier.

Axxe: yeah, i agree, simple is better in my opinion. but i gotta say, it would be cool to put a nice tactical sight on it and a light on the forend just for kicks! the mp-2 is actually priced at around $320, which is a good number right now as well

i paid about $359 for mine NIB, + tax. about $7 for the shell carrier. i have shot several hundreds of rounds through it with nothing more than cleaning and oiling with not one problem to date. i also have a Maverick 88 with the 26" barrel, that i bought used for about $120. it's not a bad shotgun for an economy version of the Mossberg 500 and is made by Mossberg.

damm them sound bad azz as can be. but can you handle it? o wait what am i thinking there is no better gun than cheep mossys or remingtons so long as you hang enough crap on them but how are you going to stop the zombies at 100 yds?

With a $400 budget you should have no problem finding a good Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 Express.

A plain jane walnut furniture 5+1 Mossberg M500 from an auction with a $5 9 LED AAA flashlight attached to the barrel (I mainly added it just for s***s and giggles anyway and will probably end up taking it off) with a barrel clamp, which came with my other shotgun is what I use, and have no real desire for anything more. It was a $200 setup. If that. I'm not 100% sure how much the gun was. I'm not going to use a $500-1000 shotgun loaded up with a bunch of crap when a cheap, auction gun will do the same job and just as, if not more reliably. Especially when the gun will just get taken as evidence in the event I have to use it. And I won't cry if it gets scratched or banged up a little. Bottom line, get something cheap and reliable like a Maverick 88, Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. In my opinion anyway.
