Bullet Spray Patterns
I am wondering some things about shotgun bullet spray patterns.
Do the different types of shotgun shells make different spray patterns (where all the holes are once your looking at the target you just shot)
Are there ones that produce a star pattern or flat pattern or do they all spread out from the center in a circular fashion?
Also, as the pellets from the shotgun travel, the diameter that they are spread apart increases over distance; does anyone know approximate spray pattern size based on certain distances in order to tell distance effectiveness of shotgun usage?
It depends on the gun, the choke and the specific load. It tends to be a circular pattern but not a perfect circle. You will get some "fliers", pellets that have been deformed more than the rest will pread more erratically.
From a cylinder bore (No-choke) barrell you cal expect one inich of spread for each yard of travel. 15 yards = 15" spread.
